Gonna miss the sunlight When I lose my eyesight Give me my red shoes I want to dance
They searched for an answer But that old man wouldn't listen Back then I was handsome Back then he was ignorant
And shave off the years now It's all inside my head The boy with the red shoes is dancing by my bed Put them in a box somewhere Put them in a drawer Take my red shoes I can't wear them anymore
Had garlands in the wings back then All the pretty little things back then Calling out my name Oh what fame brings
After curtain calls and bows I can't see the front row now Hand me my red shoes Just one more time
They pushed aside our presence They refused to go the distance Back then I was Sigmund Back then he wouldn't listen
And shave off the years now It's all inside my head The boy with the red shoes is dancing by my bed Put them in a box somewhere Put them in a drawer Take my red shoes I can't wear them anymore
They pushed aside our presence They refused to go the distance Back then I was Sigmund Back then he wouldn't listen Back then I was handsome Back then he was ignorant

| Whiteout whited out |
[Sep. 24th, 2009|08:22 pm] |
| [ | music |
| | Voices by Disturbed | ] | Dear Creative Team Behind The Whiteout Movie,
I watched your movie today and while I appreciate (unlike some of my friends, who fell asleep) the loooong amount of time between the initial plot points, and the abundance of tension buildups in the process, many other aspects of your show make me beg the question: Are you all big fans of Scooby Doo?
No? You sure? Cos it really felt like it, with all the overconcentrated foreshadowing, obvious red-herring hints at certain characters and the big scary masked man. In fact, the only thing that was missing was a big goofy dog (though perhaps this was substituted in the form of that dumbass Australian character) and for Tom Skerrit's character (who looked an awful lot like Kris Kristofferson here) to say "...and I would've done it too, if it weren't for those pesky agents..." at the end of it.
I also need to ask; if a madman with a pickaxe is chasing you with proven intent to kill, and you're armed with a pistol, aren't you going to blow his brains out? You are, aren't you? You ain't gonna run like a pussy, are you? You ain't gonna let the fact that you fell down stop you either, are you, especially if you fell down facing him and would be in fact in better position to aim? No? Good. So why in the flying hell did you make Kate Beckinsale run like an idiot when she could have done just that?
Now, I'm going to give you a bit of logical leeway; perhaps her character, being a Field Marshal, didn't wanna kill him, perhaps to hold him for questioning later on. That assumption being what it is, why then did you make her cut his belay line off, letting him plunge into an obvious and unsalvageable death just moments later?
Also, being the sole person in Antarctica responsible for maintaining law and order, and having already been bitten once by a suspect who escaped her clutches in the flashbacks, and Hollywood being what it is with all its pro-learning-curve ideals, how on earth did she do such a half-assed job of securing an obviously novice criminal that the bugger could escape both his bonds and the locked door within minutes?
Going back to that position of being the sole law enforcer in an entire snowstormy continent, if you were that in her stead, would you ever leave all your stuff, badge et al inclusive, unguarded in your unlocked room while you go to shower? No? And if you were an obviously appealing woman in an environment (not unlike an SAF camp) of men filled with as much testosterone as sexual deprivation, would you shower in an unlocked bathroom in an unlocked dorm room? No? So why would you make her do both those silly moves with one single action? I would hate to be a daughter or spouse of yours, dear sirs, I really would.
On the same thread of thought, once again, she's a Field Marshal. She leaves her weapons in her office. And she leaves the door to this office...unlocked??? So she gets jumped by a weirdo hiding behind the door when she comes in to retrieve her weapons?? Hello??
Do you enjoy cliches, fellas? Cos I sure don't. Oh, the blah of seeing Kate Beckinsale fumble with her belay line right when the masked man was on her tail, despite earlier having absolutely no trouble with it at all, I fear, is an insult to her. She's slain vampires and werewolves and survived with her credibility intact after acting in an Adam Sandler film revolving around a remote control. She deserves much better than this.
I can tell you're quite heavily anti-Soviet too, aint'cha. The scene where the Russian pilots opened fire on their own crewmates just to get the loot was just stupid. They can't have expected to survive that one, no matter how the gunfight ended, did they? They were on a fucking plane, for cryin' out loud. No one survives a gunfight on a plane, especially when the pilots are involved. Now I don't know about you but I for one would definitely like to give the Soviets much more credit than that. They absolutely can't be that dumb, you biased pigs, especially since they have the coolest voices and uniforms in the Red Alert game series and are responsible for vodka and the Nightwatch movie.
Now, about that loot and our werewolf-slaughtering, Adam Sandler-surviving hero. After all she's gone through throughout the movie, you'd think there'd be no way, at the very least, she'd want to open a canister of unknown contents which could very possibly be highly radioactive. Especially after her creepy-looking partner tells her it's a bad idea, or maybe it's her late-blooming rebellious streak coming through to counter-act on his advice. But no, she opens it, coming just THIS CLOSE to another Nicholas Cage-style movie ending. Field Marshal FAIL.
I thank you, however, for not following the usual stereotype of killing off the sole black character in the script. You just had him injured ALMOST to the point of death, that's all. How gracious of you. You just HAD to cast the only other non-Caucasian as the drug dealer though, didn't you, you bastards.
I am not going to request for a refund on my movie ticket despite your happy-go-lucky attempt at a film, owing to the fact that my ticket was sponsored.
Yours in disappointment (to put it mildly), Shane.

My cousin Russell was doing some mock papers in preparation for his Os and I tried a bit of one (in the 10 minutes I had before his taxi arrived). | | Wherever You Will Go by The Calling | ] | In 11 hours' time, I'm getting my ic back.
Two nights ago I sent out an email informing some people in camp of my ORD, telling them I enjoyed working with them and thanking them. I got a few encouraging replies, and it resulted in a few interesting incidents with some of the regulars.
One, whom I've respected more and more ever since being a trainee under him and then working alongside him, ended up having a 45 minute chat with me about music and concerts. He was at the Slipknot and NIN gigs that I was at, and was also there when RHCP, Metallica and Megadeth ripped through singapore too. I always knew him to be a metalhead, but it turns out, in his younger days he hung out with the people from Humpback Oak, wrote a bunch of songs (including Circling Squares!) with them, and almost joined them. He recalled his serious, budget-riddled band days when they went to someone's apartment, taped carpets to the doors and windows and used a tape recorder to churn out their songs. At the end of it I thanked him for everything and he insisted it was me he owed thanks to.
Another one, a woman who's always been nice to me, jumped me from behind in the canteen today, shook me by the shoulders shouting "SHAAAAAAAANE!" and then said "...just saying bye!" when I gave her a look.
A guy who was in charge of me when we were terrorist-hunting phoned me up to talk to me, ask what I wanna do with my life and insist that even if I wanna go straight back to work I should still look at part-time studying; that education is important, so as not to "end up like [him] and get stuck in the SAF".
A warrant officer I was never close to emailed me affirming my working attitude and character, saying I should be proud to have been part of a department that has consistently been producing commendable work. This ORDing stuff is kinda cool.

| [ | music |
| | A Little Respect by Wheatus | ] | Cheers to Day 2 being the most metal I've ever seen Baybeats get, and this weekend being one of the best Baybeats weekends so far as a whole.
- Flawed Element, Meza Virs, Lunar Node and Anberlin put up the best shows for me. Start to finish, fucking awesome. - West Grand Boulevard, Estranged, Love Me Butch, Velvette Vendetta and Jon Chan put up great sets too. - It was cool seeing John Chiong on stage again, playing with Jon Chan. I miss Surreal. - The singer from Audiocean is GOOD! She had a lot of confidence and personality coupled with her voice and looks. She's gonna do really well for herself. Can't say the same for the rest of the band, though. - Ever heard someone speaking in an American-accented metal growl say "eh why you so kancheong ah"? Way to go, Cedric from Meza Virs! Props to him for also introducing the first-ever BDSM display on a Baybeats stage, too! - What the fuck is up with Chris Collingwood? When he performed he looked like any ol' random expat going for breakfast at East Coast Road or something. When your backing band dresses better than you do, you're in trouble. Boo to his slowed down version of Stacey's Mom, too. What a fucking tease, I'm sure everyone there was equally disappointed. - On the flipside, I think it's really cool that local musicians had the chance to collaborate with Chris Collingwood and Ally Kerr. Represent! - I'm probably alone in this, but I didn't really enjoy Tabasco. Their music got monotonous after a while and the bassist looked like a retard. I realise I will never be able to appreciate most Thai and Korean bands cos they speak like idiots and move like bigger idiots. - Is the Taken By Cars singer on drugs? She sure sounded like it. Also, what is up with Filipino bands; The Ambassadors and every other Filipino band I've seen here before included: they always ask for all their countrymen in the house to make noise/stand up/raise hands etc. And then they'll start speaking to them in Tagalog. It's weird. And unnecessary. - The crowd during Suicide Solution really sucked, I feel so bad for Joe. It got to the point where he was shouting "WAKE UP!" and "I didn't come here to see a bunch of dead people staring at me". - The Calerway singer wore the same outfit he did when they played here in 2006. What is this, a uniform? - Opposition Party was fucking boring shit. I tried listening to them, really I did, but it really was crap. - Props to the big fat bald angmoh dude for being a one-man moshpit during Barricade, and then actively diving into the pit to help out people who fell down during Calerway. Well done.
I think some girls can get ridiculously stupid when it comes to being in the pit. During Calerway, this tiny minah had a flippin' panic attack when the moshpit literally erupted all around her. She was shaking, hyperventilating, and refused to be taken anywhere by her friends. I've seen this happen too many times before. There was also the time a few years back when some bitch kicked me just cos I ended up stepping on her open-toe-shoed foot when the crowd started moving. Hello, idiot, if you're gonna stand dead centre of the area in front during a punkrock gig and not anticipate being surrounded by moshers or not get your feet stepped on when you don't wear proper shoes, you need to submit your brain to failblog.org.
Also, I don't know why, but girls can get ferocious when it comes to leaving the crowd. I realise that when it comes to guys, no matter how big, fat, scary-looking, mat, punk, nerdy they are, guys will always be polite about making their way around. They'll always either verbally say sorry or excuse me, or they'll make gestures or tap you on the arm. And when you do move aside for them they'll walk through the gap made for them in single file. When it comes to girls, however, they act as if either there's a fire goin on behind them or there's a sale goin on in front of them. They seldom say or indicate anything to excuse themselves, they just push past you as if you're trying to rob them. And even when you try to move aside for them, it's no use; they'll take advantage of your lack of balance to push you back even more. I'm so gonna bring Diane to the next one and get her to punch them for me.
I spent $100 on merch!

| | Here Is Gone by Goo Goo Dolls | ] | AHM was overall a good experience. And hey, I got my first-ever medal thanks to it too.
It was kinda disappointing that my calves kept acting up, causing me to fall at Tanjong Rhu around 10-12km into the run cos my right leg totally froze up. Up till that point, I was going at a pretty god pace. Ever since, they'd start cramping up every few clicks. At some point later on the soles of my shoes came loose too.
This is particularly disappointing because throughout the training, it's always been my respiratory system that started to get tired out before my body did. Yesterday, however, my chest was rarin' to go but my legs were just burnt.
I couldn't even enjoy going fast on the last 2km cos my calves were unrelentingly cramping up every now and then.
I finished under 3 hours, but I'm sure as hell I could have done much much better.
Makes me wanna have another go at it next year. |

| | Head Like A Hole by Nine Inch Nails | ] | Randomness about the Nine Inch Nails concert:
1. It is very fucking hard to get over the fact that I just saw Trent Reznor in the flesh. 2. Before tonight, I can't remember the last time I screamed so much and so fucking loud during a concert. 3. Before tonight, I can't remember the last time I had my hands in the air so much during a concert. 4. I never raise my palms during P&W, but as sure as fuck did I have my palms in the air during NIN. 5. There is no such thing as too much beer when it comes to a NIN concert. 6. Robin Finck's legs are very fucking long. 7. I have always always always wanted to witness Wish, Head Like A Hole and Hurt being played live by NIN. Today I did so. 8. I always told myself if I ever got to see Wish played live, I would double-punch the air furiously when he sang "fist-fuck". Today I did so. 9. Today I got in trouble when I told Diane I would probably have an orgasm when they play Wish. 10. For once in my life, I was at a concert at Fort Canning which did not have giggling, underage girls asking each other stupid questions about the band and screaming whenever a roadie appeared on the stage. I enjoy this fact. 11. Within half an hour of Jon and I buying the tour tshirts, they were all sold out. I enjoy this fact. 12. They did not perform Starfuckers, Inc. I do not enjoy this fact. 13. Once again, there was a couple in front of me that was making out throughout the concert. I do not understand why this happens a lot during concerts, and why for some reason they are always in my vicinity. I also do not understand how they were at it non stop for a very large number of songs, including Survivalism. Who the fuck makes out during Survivalism!?!? And who the fuck makes out when they could be watching NIN!?!? 14. I would love to be the guy contracted to supply the lights for a NIN show. One evening of work could pay off two months of expenditure. 15. Ilan Rubin is a maniac, and it was a treat to have been able to see Justin Meldal-Johnsen too. This, however, does not make up for the fact that I could instead have been seeing Josh Freese or Twiggy Ramirez in their places, had this tour been a coupla years earlier. 16. Respect to Trent for not giving the usual "we are glad to be here" bullshit to the audience and letting his music do the talking instead. His interactions were few and far between; two "thank you"s and a "sorry it took us so long to get here", but they were enough. 17. I want to go to another NIN gig already.

Caught up with Teresa and Holly (finally!), was sent free tickets from SAFRA to see Harry Potter next week, sent Ben off at the airport and then was out with the DA in town till laaaate, did photography at the NDP rehearsal which was great fun especially when the Red Lions were dropping in from the sky and when Vocaluptuous appeared on stage. Today if there're still tickets available I'll be catching The Observatory gig with Don. Also, three days without internet in the office has allowed me to discover a dangerous addiction to Plants Vs Zombies which is going to really turn me into either a plant or a zombie, I suspect.
Can't wait for the next NDP rehearsals and the actual show (if I can get a pass for it) to get more shots. Hopefully Selva lets me use his zoom lens so I can get better shots of Vocaluptuous, the F-16s and our drill squad.

| | Whores by Jane's Addiction | ] | Y'know, I was- and am- a huge fan of Michael Jackson's music, and his dance moves from back in the day. He was my first ever idol, and my only one right up till 2001 when I discovered a certain guitarist from Limp Bizkit. But somehow, I didn't feel all that affected about his death. I think it's cos, to me, MJ died spiritually some time around 2000; everything after that was pretty meaningless to me. Especially the plastic surgery and all his eccentricities involving his kids. Even the music video for You Rock My World just didn't seem right.
Of course I'm sad he's gone. But like I said, he was gone to me 9 years ago. Rest well, Michael. And thank you.
*
Farrah Fawcett, now there's the one I did feel for when she died. I think the romantic part of me hoped she'd somehow make it through her cancer. Poor girl, she suffered for so long and when she did pass, alot of people were too busy going "OH NO MJ!!!!" to stop and mourn for her. She deserved her own day. Sigh.
*
I'm currently being amused by Marilyn Manson, again. Excerpts from a recent interview with SPIN Magazine:
"I was going to email you a photograph I just took. It's of a new piece of modern art I created. Let's call this work my Jack-off Pollack, of sorts. I had two condoms -- alien things to me, I haven't seen them in 25 years -- and I threw them on the mirror, and they stuck, and they formed this piece of modern art. And I can't decide what to call it. I'm thinking about calling it "I Don't Want You to be Cursed With My Retarded Child," or "It's Not Just Love, It's a Lifestyle," because they were Lifestyle condoms."
on his ex-girlfriend, Evan Rachel Wood: "I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer. "
on the eighth-grader who recently shot his teacher when she refused to say "Hail Marilyn Manson": "Where did he get the gun, and why can't I get one? It's shocking to me that it's easier to buy a gun at Wal-Mart than it is to buy my record."
